Exploit allowed minting of wMTRG on BNB Chain without legitimate backing on Meter's native chain. MTRG price dropped approximately 73% (from $0.00991494 to $0.002682) as a direct result of the dump on PancakeSwap. Number of affected liquidity providers not quantified in public reporting.
Chronology
1 beatStarting at 21:14 UTC on September 23, 2026, two linked addresses exploited a flaw in Meter's cross-chain Passport bridge to mint unbacked wMTRG tokens on BNB Chain, then partially sold the minted supply on PancakeSwap. The attack caused an immediate 73% price collapse in MTRG. Meter contained the incident and began remediation; the exact number of affected PancakeSwap liquidity providers has not been disclosed.
