Fogo Foundation Private Key Compromise — $3M Gross / $1.2M Net (163M FOGO Missing)

On August 28-29, 2026 (disclosed at 01:13 UTC on the 29th), an attacker compromised a private key belonging to the Fogo Foundation, gaining control of 400 million FOGO tokens (approximately 4% of genesis supply, ~$3M gross). The Fogo mainnet was halted for approximately four days as a precaution. Upon restart on September 2, the Foundation recovered and permanently burned 237 million of the stolen tokens, leaving approximately 163 million FOGO (~$1.2M) still unaccounted for. FOGO's price fell roughly 18% following disclosure. Bitget and KuCoin both suspended FOGO deposits and withdrawals during the incident. Fogo has not disclosed the attack vector or whether any of the remaining missing tokens have since been recovered or frozen, and no attacker address has been publicly released.
