EVM: 0x770b10b273fC44Fe9197D6bF20F145c2e98463Ee ("Bitget Exploiter 1") | XRP: rwNhefsz1UQEusxhCvHip3RANinWi4CTck | Zcash: t1WgMdtND8NF7NDUuYmq8MpMj1NTCXkMDVG | Tron: TBWNguTTgezw9dVorX441C6nDrZpRxYwKD

Funds moved to

Dispersed across EVM, XRP, Tron and Zcash chains; partial seizure/freeze achieved of 1,227,121.37 ATOM plus ~$320k in stablecoins (~$2.42M total recovered/frozen). User Protection Fund of >$464M committed by Bitget to cover losses.

Linked

Four confirmed attacker addresses across EVM, XRP, Zcash and Tron rails. Attribution assessed as "highly likely DPRK" by Elliptic based on on-chain behavioral patterns consistent with prior Lazarus Group operations.

Chronology

1 beat
  1. On September 24, 2026 at 18:31 UTC, Bitget's backend infrastructure was compromised, resulting in unauthorized mass withdrawals across eight blockchain networks simultaneously (Ethereum, XRP Ledger, Tron, Zcash, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base). Bitget froze withdrawals shortly after detection and began coordinating with chain analytics firms and exchanges to trace and freeze funds. Elliptic's analysis points to North Korea-linked actors with high confidence, consistent with established Lazarus Group tradecraft (rapid cross-chain dispersal, use of privacy coins). Bitget established a $464M+ User Protection Fund to guarantee full reimbursement to affected users while recovery efforts continue. As of the last verified check, approximately $2.42M in stolen assets had been seized or frozen across cooperating exchanges and validators.
